校區規劃簡史 A Brief History of Campus Planning

1985年教育部頒布「開放新設私立學校處理要點」後不久，新竹地區知名企業家王榮昌先生、蔡兆章先生及國民大會代表林政則先生，響應政府「私人捐資興校」之號召，實現「企業有成、回饋地方」之宏願，邀請有志捐資興學的11名地方仕紳，以落實科技教育，增加推廣教育管道為目的，規劃籌設興辦新竹第一所民辦大學。
Shortly after the Ministry of Education promulgated the ‘Key Points for Handling the Opening of New Private Schools’ in 1985, Mr Wang Rongchang, Mr Tsai Shaozhang, and Mr Lin Zhengzhe, a well-known entrepreneur in Hsinchu, responded to the government's call for ‘private donations to build schools’ and to realise the grand wish of ‘giving back to the local community when the enterprises have achieved success’ by inviting eleven local justices to donate to build a school to implement science and technology education and increase the number of pipelines for the promotion of education. To achieve the goal of implementing science and technology education and increasing the channels for promoting education, we planned to establish the first private university in Hsinchu.

設校籌備處於1987年茄苳湖山一處魚池畔旁的三合院成立，教育部於隔年（1988年）核准了中華工學院的設校申請，同時於新竹市郊東香里購買校地興建校舍，並於1990年開始招生。
The preparatory office for the establishment of the school was set up in 1987 in a courtyard house next to a fish pond in Kafu Lake Mountain. The Ministry of Education approved the application for the establishment of CUT in 1988, and at the same time, purchased a site in Dongxiangli, a suburb of Hsinchu City, to build a school building, which was opened for enrolment in 1990.

當時，中華工學院（現中華大學）與高雄工學院（現義守大學）、長庚醫學院（現長庚大學）、元智工學院（現元智大學）等校，同為政府解嚴後第一批成立的高等教育學府。
At that time, the Chung Hua Institute of Technology (now Chung Hua University), together with the Kaohsiung Institute of Technology (now Yishou University), Chang Gung College of Medicine (now Chang Gung University), and Yuan Ze Institute of Technology (now Yuan Ze University), were the first batch of higher education institutes established by the government after the lifting of the Strictures.
